Resident Evil 4, Code: Veronica X HD lurch to US in September

By Eddie Makuch

Comic-Con 2011: Capcom announces high-definition horror remakes will arrive on Sept. 20, Sept. 27, respectively.

SAN DIEGO--Japanese gamers will have a crack at the high-definition updates of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code: Veronica X as part of the expansive 15th Anniversary bundle on September 8. As part of Comic-Con 2011 today, Capcom said US gamers will have to wait a bit longer.

Premiering first will be Resident Evil 4 HD, which will drop on September 20. A week later, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X will hit digital store shelves on September 27.

Capcom made the news today during its Resident Evil panel at Comic-Con, where the publisher also said both games will be available on-disc only in Japan. And as was previously announced, the games will be available in North America and Europe exclusively via digital download. Xbox 360 gamers can pick up each title via Games on Demand, and PlayStation 3 owners can grab both games on the PlayStation Network.

[CORRECTION]: The original text stated both Resident Evil 4 HD and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD would receive retail releases in North America. However, they will only release digitally in North America and Europe. GameSpot regrets the error.

Yeah I also read that this would also be released on disc. Which isn't a huuuge deal to me but it seems as if they would prefer to release this long time monsterous title on disc aswell as on demand. I imagine it would greatly increase sales.

I thought I read that these would be available on disc in America and Gamespot confirmed that. Ugh, Gamespot got my hopes up only to "correct" them.

I'm disappointed we don't get the option of buying this on disc. But I'm still excited for these.

The game should've been remade, CV did just as much for the series as RE1 did if not more. It deserves the same kind of updated treatment that the first game got.

I just hope RE4 HD won't be simply a port of the PC version. It would be pretty ugly to watch Gamecube cut scenes in the middle of the HD gameplay. And please... PS Move support!!!! It did great on RE5!

Veronica is quite dated. I don't think it holds up well today with the tank-like controls and slow-pace. I'm still thinking of "Operation Raccoon" as a purchase. It may not be classic RE, but the co-op factor looks mighty fun!

I love RE4, it's one of my favorite games of all time. I still have my PS2 copy, but I might pick this up again for some trophies.

Yes but the hitch is that the cut-scenes look pale by comparison to the in-game graphics they're just the GameCube cut-scenes ported over and it's a shame no effort was made to render them in real time or to improve the visual quality. Another setback is that none of the texture work was redone, so grass and leaves and rock maps are still the same low-quality versions originally designed for normal-quality television resolutions.

Well, Capcom will not stop the milk trucks rolling it seems. Both of these games were fantastic...that being said, I think you can find each of them for about 9.99 @ your local game store. Why rehash a good game/series until everyone is sick of it? Just release one new original RE once in a while, this bombardment of resident evils makes the games less scary, and less appealing IMO. Don't even bother remaking RE 2, cause I know that Capcom's "remake" will be HD graphic, that's it. Hell, they might not even change the game, which is probably a good thing, but why release it then? On ther other hand, the new 3ds RE looks good, but they need to get back to solo survival horror, it was much scarier.

    >Talran1 RE: Revelations is the new RE coming to 3DS. A true RE fan would have known about Revelations since the beginning.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica is simply one the best. I would definitely love to play it again in HD.
