Blizzard planning complete Diablo lore book

Comic-Con 2011: Developer's story and franchise chief Chris Metzen says compendium novel will serve as complete resource for demonic fantasy universe.

SAN DIEGO--Blizzard Entertainment will be hosting its annual fan expo BlizzCon in early September, where the game company will open up about all the latest and greatest on its Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises. However, Blizzard hasn't been entirely absent from Comic-Con 2011, as it held a panel to show off its most recent developments on all the loot that surrounds the game.

In particular, Blizzard talked up its line of novels based on the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises. Though nearly all of this information had been previously announced, Blizzard's senior VP of story and franchise development Chris Metzen said that the studio plans to release an official source book for the Diablo franchise alongside Diablo III's as-yet-unestablished launch.

The Diablo compendium is being positioned as the journal of Deckard Cain, the wizened advisor to characters in the game. The book includes an extensive rundown of lore and history for the Diablo franchise, ranging from class descriptions to notable people.

Check back later for the full video of Blizzard's Comic-Con 2011 swag show.

They are just waiting for the Star Wars The old republic release date, so they can let's say, diminish the damage that Wow is going to suffer by the hands of the Jedi xD

These guys need to spend less time swimming in their real life gold and more time working on their games.

I like the sound of this. I wish we could see this more often. I just hope that the book itself will encompass all of the lore of Diablo, as this would be really neat and insightful. I love to read about mythology and legends. Lore from my favorite video games make the game that much better.

I really could care less about the console ports to be honest. Just want my mouse and keyboard. Oh yeah, and a release date.

Do we really have to put up with more news without a release date? Diablo III: Lord of Incompetence.

by the time diablo 3 is released for the pc and ps3 the ps3 will no longer be made and they will be onto the ps6 and the program they used will be useless so they will need to start again from the begining so stop delaying with the game and release it soon or you will have no loyal fans of diadlo left to play the game

Why do you guys assume it's the same people working on the book and the game? That said, I can't wait for both!

Blizzcon in October 21-22 really wouldnt suprise me if we have a release date for PC! Yes I have heard that August the beta should be starting. I dont expect the game to run 100% perfect at first online but I bet a few patches and we should be sorted. It should be early 2012 at the latest its released. Personally I think they will try to release it just before xmas to get the huge sales in.
